Habs Future Week of February 7th

The Three Stars of the Week

1. C Mark MacMillan receives special recognition this week from the bubble prospect group. MacMillan had recently returned to the lineup of his Penticton Vees team in the BCHL, a Junior A league. On Friday night, MacMillan scored the tying goal and added an assist in his team’s 4-1 victory and first game back and than raised his game quickly for the rest of the weekend. MacMillan added another assist on Saturday night on what would be the game-winning goal in an 8-4 victory and than completed his weekend by assisting on two goals and then scoring the overtime winner to allow his team to have a perfect weekend. MacMillan despite battling both a broken wrist and concussion this season is on a 1.43PPG pace on his season, he is committed to join the North Dakota NCAA hockey team in the 2011-12 season.

2. RW Brendan Gallagher in his only game of the week brought his team victory while playing in the national spotlight this weekend as his team was selected to play in Whitehorse during the annual Hockey Day in Canada. Gallagher’s hold as MVP of the Vancouver Giants was once again maintained as he scored two goals, including the game-winner to bring his team a 3-2 victory while maintaining hold as the 6^th overall scorer in the WHL and remaining tied for 2^nd overall in goals with 38 on his season.

3. D Morgan Ellis gets a nod this week for being the first amongst the Canadiens junior-league prospects to best a previous-season mark. Ellis had 28 points last season, which he exceeded this week by scoring two assists for his Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in their only victory of the week. Ellis currently has 7 goals and 23 assists on his season and is three assists away from besting his single-season best in assists. Ellis leads all other defencemen on his team by at least a two to one margin in points and is the 4^th on his team in points.

Worthy Mentions: D Mathieu Carle leads all HAM defencemen in goals with his 9^th of the season, which is also a career best. LW Andrew Conboy had a goal and one assist in his first three games back from injury and also scored his 9^th goal of the season, also a career high for the forward. RW Aaron Palushaj exceeded his AHL season-best 8G in 62GP last season by also scoring his 9^th goal in 43 games this season.

Question Marks: RW Alexander Avtsin has missed 3 games with a lower-body injury. RW Danny Kristo is still recovering from frostbite to his right foot. C Louis Leblanc has no points in his last 8 games. LW Phillippe Lefebvre has only 2 goals in his last 16 games. C Ben Maxwell has only 3 goals in his last 17 games. D Jarred Tinordi still does not have a goal in the OHL this season after 49 games. RW Maxim Trunev has one point in his last 20 games.

The AHL Report: The Hamilton Bulldogs have been the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens since 2002. It is the most common route for developing Montreal Canadiens prospects into full-time members of the organization. There are currently 14 members of the Hamilton Bulldogs that can be considered NHL-viable prospects, four of which, David Desharnais, Max Pacioretty, Yannick Weber and Ryan White have been called up to Montreal. The Hamilton Bulldogs have a record of 29-19-1-4, are 2^nd in the North Division, 8^th overall in the Western Conference and 14^th overall in the league. The Bulldogs have lost four straight and have only won one of their last seven games.
