The Three Stars of the Week:
1. C Michaël Bournival rises to the top of the field for the week by scoring two goals and adding four assists to his scoring totals, which has raised him to 17th overall in league scoring in the QMJHL. Bournival’s scoring contributions were quite fortuitous for the team he captains, the Shawinigan Cataractes as his scoring directly led to all three victories enjoyed by his team. On Tuesday, Bournival scored the game-winning goal in what became a 4-0 victory by the Cataractes, on Friday, Bournival would score the first goal of the game for his team and assist on the next two goals resulting in a 3-2 victory, Saturday Bournival once again helped ensure victory by scoring the opening goal of the match and assisting on the game-winning goal in a 6-4 victory. Bournival is also a leading faceoff specialist in the QMJHL, checking in at an efficiency of 56%.
2. C Ben Maxwell emerged from his scoring slump to add three goals and three assists to his scoring totals during three games and begin his first points streak in 2011. With the Bulldogs bereft of the scoring talents of David Desharnais, they had been looking for a new centre to carry offence and Maxwell stepped up to carry the load. Maxwell had one assist in his first game of the week on Tuesday, a 7-0 victory, added two goals and an assist in his team’s 7-3 win on Friday, than added a goal and assist to help force overtime and an eventual shootout win on Saturday. Maxwell’s output of late his him back on track to exceed his season-best mark of 36 assists in a season.
3. RW Brendan Gallagher continues to build on his excellent offensive season in the WHL, scoring four goals and one assist while playing in three games in three nights on the road. Gallagher had a relatively light weekend to start, with an assist on the game-winning goal in a 3-0 victory on Friday, adding one goal in a 6-1 victory on Saturday, than scored his second hat trick of the season on Sunday in a 7-3 victory. Gallagher maintains his position at 5th overall in scoring in the WHL and is now tied for 2nd overall in goals. Gallagher is currently paced to best his old single-season best of 41 goals and 40 assists in a season.
Worthy Mentions: Bubble prospect LW John Westin returned from injury after missing 4 months due to a broken arm and scored a goal in his first game back in the Swedish under-20 Junior league. RW Alexander Avtsin added four assists to his scoring totals and has six assists in his seven games since returning from injury. C Gabriel Dumont snapped an 8-game scoreless streak with an assist in each of his last two games. G Robert Mayer took a rare start and earned a victory by stoning the opposing team in the shootout to hold out for an eventual 4-3 win. D Brendon Nash likely expressed a sigh of relief when he scored a 3rd goal on his season for the first time in five years, he also added three assists to his totals to continue building on his status as the leading scorer amongst defencemen in Hamilton. RW Aaron Palushaj has begun to break out of his slump with two goals, two assists in his last 3 game. C Louis Leblanc scored a goal and two assists in two games, including the game-winning goal in his second game of the week. LW Phillippe Lefebvre returned from being sidelined with a concussion and scored a goal and assist in his first two games back. G Karri Ramo won both his starts on the week and has not lost in regulation in his last fifteen starts, he continues to lead the KHL in wins with 29.
Question Marks: LW Andrew Conboy has a knee injury that has him sidelined until likely early to mid-February. Bubble prospect RW Ian Schultz is out at least 6 weeks with a fractured foot. D Morgan Ellis is a team-worst -25 on the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

The AHL Report: The Hamilton Bulldogs have been the AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens since 2002. It is the most common route for developing Montreal Canadiens prospects into full-time members of the organization. There are currently 14 members of the Hamilton Bulldogs that can be considered NHL-viable prospects, four of which, David Desharnais, Max Pacioretty, Yannick Weber and Ryan White have been called up to Montreal.
