The Three Stars of the Week:
1. RW Brendan Gallagher makes an appearance at the top of the honours list by rediscovering his offensive prowess, stepping up to provide key offence for his Vancouver Giants squad as the team’s new offensive leader. Gallagher’s play led to an industrious week of two goals and five assists, scoring the opening goal in his first game, an eventual 5-3 win, assisting on all three goals in a 3-2 win by his team, he went scoreless in his third a 3-0 loss than finished his week off by scoring a goal and two assists, including an assist on the game-winning goal. Gallagher is currently 5th overall in the WHL in scoring with 28G, 29A on his season and is first in scoring on his team, leading his teammates by an impressive 22 points.
2. G Karri Ramo continues to be arguably, the top goaltender in the KHL this season and possibly outside the NHL with an impeccable season record of 27-6-3 following another perfect week in nets. Ramo added three wins to his record, allowing only two goals in each game he played during his week with a .923 save percentage. Thanks to Ramo’s prowess in nets, his team Avangard Omsk is first overall in the KHL and Ramo has only lost one game in his last twelve starts. Ramo’s stats continue to be dominant in all fields, he is 2nd overall in the league in Goals Against Average at 1.94, 4th overall in save percentage at .928, 2nd overall in shutouts with 5 and is first overall in wins with 27, six more than his closest competitor in the league.
3. C Louis Leblanc delivered some valuable offence for the Montreal Juniors during the week, he scored two goals and added three assists to his scoring totals, raising him to 5th in scoring on his team. Leblanc is only five points from tying for the team lead in points and both players holding the lead have played at least nine more games than he has. Leblanc scored a goal in his first match of the week, went scoreless in the next, but then soundly delivered a victory for his team by contributing on the first four goals of a 5-2 win with a goal and three assists, it was Leblanc’s third four-point game of the season. Leblanc is currently the most effective scorer for the Juniors, scoring at a rate of 1.28 points per game.
Worthy Mentions: RW Alexander Avtsin began his week by assisting on the game-winning goal in his first game, than would score the shootout winning goal in his next game, he leads all Bulldogs with three shootout goals on his season. C Andreas Engqvist returned from injury to score a goal and assist in his first game back, including assisting on the eventual game-winning goal. RW Danny Kristo extended his current points streak to 8 games while adding a goal and assist to his scoring totals, he has 3G and 10A on his current streak. D Greg Pateryn had two assists over consecutive games for the 3rd time this season. C Dustin Walsh has matched his points output from last season with 7G, 3A in 5 fewer GP. C Michaƫl Bournival had a goal and assist to ensure his team made it to overtime and eventual shootout victory on Sunday and remains first in scoring on his team with 19G, 27A.
Question Marks: LW Phillippe Lefebvre has been sidelined by a concussion and is out indefinitely. LW Andrew Conboy is currently out with a lower-body injury for Hamilton. C Gabriel Dumont has had no points in his last 7 games. C Ben Maxwell has only 6G in 32GP so far this season, compared to 22G in 73GP his rookie AHL season and 16G in 57GP last season. G Robert Mayer has not been trusted with a start since January 1st, his GAA is above 3 and his save percentage is at .888 on the season. RW Aaron Palushaj has only two assists in his last 10 games. RW Maxim Trunev has no points in his last 11 KHL games.
