The Three Stars of the Week
1. RW Brendan Gallagher is not one to slow down on his quest to score a goal in every game he plays and for a second straight week claims top honours with Habs Future. Gallagher spent the week literally multiplying his efforts on a game by game basis as he scored three goals and three assists over three games. Gallagher resumed a new goal scoring streak with a single marker in a 6-3 loss to the Kelowna Rockets on Thursday night and quickly continued the pace adding another goal and assist in an 8-1 victory over the Victoria Royals. Gallagher seemed to reserve his best for last in an act of scoring retribution against Kelowna for the loss on Thursday night as he scored a goal and three assists in a 5-2 victory over Kelowna and his goal was the eventual game-winner. Gallagher’s 10 goals and 7 assists on his season raise him to 9th overall in scoring in the Western Hockey League and has him tied at 3rd overall in goals, all players ahead of him have played at least three more games as well. Gallagher was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 5th round, 147th overall in the 2010 Entry Draft.
2. RW Danny Kristo has been looked upon to lead the offence for North Dakota this year and he continues to live up to the task. Kristo added two goals and two assists to his scoring totals over a pair of to extend his points streak to six straight games, having at least one point in each game he’s played this season. Kristo had assists for two goals on Friday night to try and help his team to a comeback against the University of Wisconsin, but the team’s bid fell short in a 5-3 loss. Kristo worked hard on Saturday night to create a tie game, scoring two goals to temporarily make it even at 3-3 however Wisconsin ended up edging North Dakota 5-4. Kristo currently leads all members of his team in goals with 4, in points with 11 and is currently ranked 5th nationally in the NCAA in scoring. Kristo was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2nd round, 56th overall in the 2008 Entry Draft.
3. D Magnus Nygren rounds out Habs Future this week as he continues to be the leading scorer on his team Farjestads BK in the Elitserien or Swedish Elite League. Nygren scored a goal and assist on his week, continuing to be the leading scorer on his team. Nygren also broke his previous-season mark of four goals in 22 games, this was his fifth goal in thirteen games on the year. Nygren later added an assist in a 4-1 victory for his team against Växjö Lakers HC. Nygren is currently 2nd overall in scoring by a defencemen in the Elitserien, with five goals and three assists on his year and is 2nd in goals for a defencemen. Nygren was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 4th round, 113th overall in the 2011 Entry Draft.
