Habs Future for the Week of March 28th

The Three Stars of the Week

1. RW Aaron Palushaj has continued to make good strides in his 2nd AHL season this week as he scored two goals and added five assists as he helped push the Hamilton Bulldogs back into a race for their division title in a perfect 4-win week for the team. Palushaj began his campaign by assisting on the opening goal for the Hamilton Bulldogs, than scoring the game-winner in a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night. Palushaj kept up his production by adding two assists and scoring another eventual game-winning goal on Wednesday as the Bulldogs took a 4-1 victory. Palushaj added single assists in both the Friday and Saturday games as his team took two more wins in back to back contests. Palushaj now stands at 19 goals, 32 assists on his season which eleven goals and eight assists better than his previous-season totals in just two more games played and is the 2nd-leading scorer in Hamilton. Aaron Palushaj was drafted by St. Louis in the 2nd round, 44th overall in the 2007 Entry Draft and was acquired in the trade that sent Matt D’Agostini to St. Louis.

2. C Michaël Bournival scored two goals and two assists as his valued scoring and leadership helped bring his Shawinigan Cataractes a first-round playoff series win the QMJHL. Bournival assisted on one goal, than scored his 2nd game-winning goal in the series on Wednesday, allowing the Cataractes to take a 3-1 lead in the series. On Friday, Bournival would assist on the eventual game-winning goal and later scored an insurance marker as the Cataractes completed their playoff series win. Bournival over the course of his playoff series scored three goals, including two game-winners and has three assists. Michaël Bournival was drafted in the 3rd round, 71st overall in the 2010 Entry Draft by Colorado and was acquired by the Canadiens in exchange for Ryan O’Byrne.

3. C Louis Leblanc has made his presence known so far in the QMJHL playoffs. He scored the series-winning goal for the Montreal Juniors on a shorthanded opportunity, it was his first shorthanded goal in the QMJHL. His goal helped seal a 4-0 series sweep that included two game-winners over the whole series. Leblanc’s goal was his fourth of the playoffs, making him the goal-scoring leader on the Juniors. Louis Leblanc was drafted in the 1st round, 18th overall in the 2009 Entry Draft.

Worthy Mentions: RW Alexander Avtsin hit 20 points in his rookie AHL season and had his first multi-point AHL campaign since January 26th. LW Phillippe Lefebvre scored a goal and assist this week to maintain a point per game pace in the QMJHL playoffs.

Question Marks: C Gabriel Dumont continues to serve out a ten-game suspension for an illegal hit. D Morgan Ellis’s season is over in the QMJHL, his team was swept in the playoffs. G Robert Mayer had only one start in March. RW Brendan Gallagher’s season has ended in the WHL as his team was swept in the playoffs. D Jarred Tinordi’s season is over in the OHL, his team was eliminated in 6 games.
