Habs Future for the Week of March 14th

The Three Stars of the Week

1. RW Danny Kristo after missing more than 6 weeks to recovering from frostbite on his right foot returned to play and made his presence known with two goals and an assist over the weekend. Kristo returned to the lineup for the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux this week and made big contributions to his team winning consecutive titles in the Western College Hockey Association Division in NCAA Hockey. Kristo who had not played a game since January 29th returned with great drive, scoring the first goal for his team on Friday night in his first shift of the game as his team won 4-3 to go to the Championship game. Kristo pushed his team further onwards on Saturday, scoring his team’s first goal and than assisting on the team’s 2nd goal to give his team a lead that would eventually allow them to win in overtime. Kristo’s comeback has him scoring at least 25 points for a second straight season in NCAA hockey and his productive return will be welcome as North Dakota will be now be looking to win a national championship in NCAA hockey.

2. RW Brendan Gallagher successfully returned to play for the Vancouver Giants following recovery from a concussion this week. Gallagher scored a goal and two assists to help his team snap an 8-game losing streak and win the final two games on their regular season schedule. Gallagher chipped in an assist in his first game back, a 3-1 loss on Friday night, added another on Saturday night as the team snapped their losing streak and then scored the initial and game-winning goal as his team swept their opponent 5-0 on Sunday. Gallagher’s final tally for the regular season stands at 44 goals, 47 assists, a 91-point effort, and ten points better than last season’s total in seven fewer games. Gallagher finished eighth overall in WHL scoring, seventh among goal scorers, he is now the 4th-highest scoring player in the history of the WHL Vancouver Giants.

3. G Karri Ramo rebounded nicely from a rough patch in his previous week, which is not completely surprising for the Finnish netminder, the last time he was pulled in a game, he rallied to become the top goaltender of the KHL for the rest of his season. With Avangard Omsk needing to rally in their playoff series down 2-1, Ramo made 57 stops in what became the longest playoff game in KHL history, Ramo played 109:11 in to triple overtime until his team finally scored to even the series at 2-2, he had a .966 save percentage in the game. Ramo then showed off his overtime credentials again, making 32 stops until his team scored in double overtime in the following game to take a 3-2 series lead. Omsk lost the following game, but Ramo still kept the game close, allowing only two goals and keeping a .944 save percentage on 34 shots. Ramo’s week ended with a .953 save percentage and 1.75 Goals Against Average, his playoff stats improved to 2.24GAA and a .914 save percentage. Ramo’s OT heroics have allowed Omsk to have a chance at advancement with Game 7 approaching on Monday.

Worthy Mentions: D Mathieu Carle has scored 25 points for a second time with the Hamilton Bulldogs, he leads all Hamilton defencemen in goals with 11. C Dustin Walsh scored a goal and assist as he helped Dartmouth College finish 3rd place in the NCAA ECAC Division, he has doubled his points production from last season. Bubble prospect G Peter Delmas has 3 shutouts in his 13 wins in the ECHL with a 2.11GAA and .927%. The CHL Regular season has concluded and the teams all six of Montreal’s junior league prospects have qualified for post-season play.

Question Marks: C MichaĆ«l Bournival is sidelined with a lower-body injury. LW Andrew Conboy took 37 minutes of penalties, including a game misconduct for “Abuse of officials” on Saturday night. C Gabriel Dumont has been suspended for 10 games by the AHL for a boarding violation, his check fractured the vertebrae of the player he hit. D Alexei Yemelin has seen his season ended, Ak Bars Kazan was eliminated from the KHL Playoffs, he scored no points in 9 playoff games.
