Thanks for acknowledging that fans can be as much of a problem as a solution.Rookiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16677719846671484561noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008573965440683710.post-42953022095647790002010-01-22T16:59:47.172-05:002010-01-22T16:59:47.172-05:00To Anonymous: No way Gainey is going to deal for t...To Anonymous: No way Gainey is going to deal for two oft-injured French Canadian players, Gagne and Briere are talented but are too often struck with injuries to be of help to the squad and their cap hit is too high. Briere is probably better than Gomez, but he's not healthy enough, often enough to make difference. Lecavalier is the worst cap hit an NHL team can take on, 7.7 a year for a decade would severely hamper the team, there is no way Lecavalier will be worth it in his mid-30s with his injuries adding up and his production slowing. I've considered Lecavalier in the past, but I doubt he'd be capable of being worth his cap hit in 6 years. Gomez is overpaying right now, but at worst he's done in 4 years after this one, Lecavalier won't be out for a decade and his cap hit won't get off the team unless he suddenly died.Robert Ricehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09196885670890642407noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008573965440683710.post-49639323126684138732010-01-22T12:09:13.129-05:002010-01-22T12:09:13.129-05:00http://insidemanhockey.blogspot.com/2010/01/alls-n...http://insidemanhockey.blogspot.com/2010/01/alls-not-quiet-on-eastern-front.html

Any truth to this "bonafide French Canadian star" rumour?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008573965440683710.post-69859995398640550762010-01-21T11:56:12.009-05:002010-01-21T11:56:12.009-05:00enjoyed your post...

To gerr...I completely agree with what your saying.

To gerry: Because you know, 17 years of booing and yelling and crying about the gms and players has really made a change. You named 2 teams with good gms and then say we need to fire ours to find us a good one, hmm if great gms were so easy to find one would think every team would hire one. But then how would there any amazing trades or surprise draft picks that become superstars, since all the gms would know who to target.

Lets not forget that times have changed, each team has pro scouts in every league out there. Each team has game film on every player. Back in pollock's time this was not the case. It is one of the reasons why pollock was able to draft some of the superstars he did. Lets look at Bob Gainey. When pollock drafted gainey the chorus of habs fans exclaimed :"bob who". And lookat what he achieved as a player.

Now lets add onto this the fact that not many people want to come here, and frankly its very obvious why. Who likes to be booed and yelled at when they are having a bad day? Hell if I got yelled at whenever I have a bad day at work and am not working up to my standards I would quit. How many big time free agents have wanted to come here in the past 17 years? Shanahan didnt, briere didnt. You know something is wrong when the hometown kids dont want to play for your team.

How can we blame bob gainey when he has so little to work with. Nobody wants to come here unless we grossly overpay. The "fans" run our young players into the ground with ridiculous expectations. Put yourself in gainey's shoes. Your in charge of a team with a history of excellence, but the past decade has been terrible. You enter the job with little to no prospects, the team sucks and the fans are booing the team and making the lives of the players miserable. Nobody wants to sign with you because your "fans" are insane. You also have to make the playoffs at all costs, but even making the playoffs isnt enough, anything other then a stanley cup is a dissapointment and the fans will boo and harrass the players. So you take your mediocre team overpay a few players nobody really wants and low and behold you scrape your way into the playoffs and lose first round. Now not only do you have your mediocre team but also a late draft pick making that much more difficult to get immediate help. Another offseason passes by and the players you make offers to reject since they dont want to play for you. Another average season ensues. The good news is one of your draft picks turn out to be a solid talent and you bring him in next season to try and help. But because he did well in junior hockey (16-19 yr olds) the "fans" expect him to produce the same totals in the nhl (18-40 yr olds). After 5 games the kid doesnt have a point so the "fans" boo him. "Why isnt he scoring!!!" the "fans" exclaim in disbelief. "He did amazing in juniors!!". The kid knows he struggling and is getting discouraged by the lack of results despite his efforts losses even more self confidence and never recovers. "Trade him or drop him" the "fans" exclaim, "he isnt doing anything here". Eventually you have to trade him or lose him in free agency since he isnt producing. Then magically he becomes amazing elsewhere (sound familiar). "Why wasnt he this good here" the "fans" shout in anger. "It must be because of management"....

Do you see where I am going. Booing doesnt help us. It hurts the team and in extension it hurts us. I am fed up with mediocrity, but even more i am fed up with the "fans" who think ridiculing the players and insulting management will actually benefit the team. As long as the so called "fans" boo and behave with such low class, i think it is safe to say we will never see another stanley cup in montreal.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008573965440683710.post-62620547225762836452010-01-17T06:07:03.282-05:002010-01-17T06:07:03.282-05:00Finally, a Habs fan who is not in denial. Finally, a Habs fan who is not in denial.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7008573965440683710.post-62261330532761374102010-01-17T05:56:46.810-05:002010-01-17T05:56:46.810-05:00Just a short note.Unless fans demand high levels o...Just a short note.Unless fans demand high levels of play the CH will wallow in mediocrity like it has for 17 years.Truth is that we have not had a great GM since Pollock, despite the 2 cups.Gainey is a poor GM any way you slice it.Why is it that Detroit,New Jersey and others have had multi year periods of excellance?
Unless the ticket buying public expresses its displesure mediocrity will continue.
Gerry from the West Island.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
