Habs Future For the Week of November 21st

The Three Stars of the Week

1. RW Danny Kristo has returned to prominence in rather dramatic fashion this week. After only one assist in his previous six contests, Kristo rediscovered his scoring touch to help end a 4-game losing streak for North Dakota with three goals and two assists over a 2-game series with Colorado College. Kristo snapped a goal scoring drought of six games a mere 36 seconds into the game on Friday night and in what became a wild 7-6 game, Kristo would score his team’s 6th goal to tie the game, than assisted on the game-winning goal. Kristo became just as instrumental in his team’s victory on Saturday night, assisting on the team’s first go-ahead goal and then scoring the game-winner in a 4-3 victory. Kristo’s 7 goals, 10 assists in 14 games have him tied for the team lead in points and tied 20th overall in NCAA scoring. Kristo was drafted in the 2nd round, 56th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2008 Entry Draft.

2. LW Steve Quailer surprisingly makes his 2nd straight appearance on Habs Future, but very worthy by having the most productive game of his NCAA career with Northeastern University. Against the University of Michigan on Friday night, Quailer scored his team’s first goal to tie the game at 1-1, than assisted on the next two goals to help bring his team a rare win in the standings in an eventual 4-1 victory. Quailer’s goal and two assists raised him to a point per game pace with 4 goals, 7 assists in 11 games, also making him the scoring leader at Northeastern University. Quailer was drafted in the 3rd round, 86th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2008 Entry Draft.

3. C Louis Leblanc is keeping to tradition, the perennial rookie now on his 5th team in 5 years is working his way to be the scoring leader of the Hamilton Bulldogs. Leblanc collected a goal and two assists as the Bulldogs continued their plunge, losing all three games on the week but Hamilton does have a continual bright spot in the rookie Leblanc. Leblanc now has 4 goals and 6 assists in 14 games, which has him tied for 2nd overall in team scoring. It is notable that Leblanc has played five fewer games than his closest competitors for the team scoring lead while he is coming off of recovery from shoulder surgery. Leblanc was drafted in the 1st round, 18th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2009 Entry Draft.

Special Honours: D Nathan Beaulieu, C Michaël Bournival and RW Brendan Gallagher have all been invited to Team Canada’s World Junior Camp.

On The Radar: LW Olivier Archambeault scored a goal and assist to snap a 3 game scoring drought. D Nathan Beaulieu scored a goal and two assists, maintaining his spot at 6th overall in defensive scoring in the QMJHL. D Mac Bennett picked up three assists to hit 13 points in 16 games, besting his previous season mark of 12 points over 32 games. C Michaël Bournival added up three assists on Saturday to raise himself to 12 goals and 6 assists in 12 games. C Philip DeSimone scored a goal and two assists during the week. D Jarred Tinordi added two assists to his scoring totals.

Question Marks: C Gabriel Dumont is out with a shoulder injury. C Andreas Engqvist has a knee injury and is recovering with Montreal D Brendon Nash is out indefinitely after having shoulder surgery in October. C Daniel Pribyl did not play in Extraliga or First League action this week, unknown if scratched or injured. C Dustin Walsh is out with a leg injury.

Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Report: The Kontinental Hockey League is the professional hockey league of Russia, many Russian players first play professionally there before joining the NHL.
